THE GUADARRAMA SIERRA MOUNTAINS
The Guadarrama Sierra Mountains belongs to Spain's Central System Mountain Range, a long chain of mountains that stretches over 500kms from east to west, right through the middle of the Iberian Peninsula.
This mountain range is located very close to Madrid, occupying an area shared by three different Spanish provinces (Madrid, Segovia and Avila). It measures 80kms in length and its highest peak is Peñalara at 2,428 meters.
It features four category 1 climbs, three category 2 climbs and several, smaller category 3 and 4 climbs (all with their north and south approaches), giving cyclists of all types an ample array of terrain choices, most of them dominated by impressive Far West movies-type rock formations and extensive pine tree forests, to practice their favorite sport.
